Today, we’ll review an upcoming visual novel game that’s being developed by the same guy who does most of my photo manipulations (eg: 2B, Snow White from SinoAlice, etc.) CRISISBEAT. It’s not complete yet but he was able to send me a demo of it to review and I have to say, I’m surprised at the level of quality that has so far been put into this game dialogue-wise and art-wise.
Game Title: Pure Heart Chronicles
Style: Visual Novel
Genre: RPG, Fantasy, Hentai
Synopsis: This visual novel follows a boy named Quinn who joins what is considered the strongest guild in the land, Mayhem Roses, a guild conveniently populated by beautiful and powerful women, in order to fight the forces of evil across the kingdom.
The first thing I noticed that I liked a lot about this game so far is how well written the descriptions are for specific scenes, including the lewd ones. The creator seems to have a way with words when it comes to describing sexual situations, which usually means they have a really good understanding of what makes pervy things pervy. It may sound like a small piece of detail but for me, that goes a long way, especially for a visual novel who’s purpose is to turn you on. Furthermore, it also helps guarantee that future content or other games created by the creator will have the same sexual appeal.
I’m a very busy person and I barely have time for games now a days so I was surprised I found myself hooked on the game within the first 5 minutes of me starting it. While the game overall is meant to be a humorous one and not to be taken seriously, which is usually not something I get into when it comes to Visual Novels especially when it comes to lewd ones, I couldn’t stop myself from clicking through just to find out what happens next. The game is genuinely entertaining if you’re in the mood for it and, if given the chance, the build up towards sexual scenarios is the biggest positive in the game, at least for me.
Like any visual novel, the game gives you choices to choose from at certain forks in the storyline. To supplement that feature, you are provided countless pages of save states, so you’re able to go back to any part of the story at any time if you wish to explore the other options. There’s an added thumbnail for each save state as well so you have an idea of which part of the story it is.
While the art style of the drawings aren’t my type personally, they are high quality for their specific style and I actually feel like it matched the vibe of the game as well as depict the perverted aspects in a way that was psychologically well executed. In each scene you are easily drawn in by the bright colors and flexibility of the facial expressions of each of the characters. Overall, it just feels like a lot more work has been put into each art scene than most indie visual novels I’ve seen.
Without giving too much away from the actual plot and story, my most favorite part of the demo was towards the end when the female pirate who owned the ship and the men onboard had the tables turned on her after being defeated by the protagonists. It’s the kind of scenario and scene that I only wish had a full side-story doujin to go with it just to satisfy my impulses. Oh well.
All in all, it’s a visual novel I’m actually looking forward to finishing. I wish the main character was a little more likable or charismatic but I can see why the creator went with the direction he took with him. It’s a project I’ll be on the lookout for and hopefully, just hopefully, the completed product can shed some more light on whatever exactly happened to the pirate lady :p
